Is this the original, live InSIMenator.net?
No. This is an independent, fan-run restoration and archive that preserves the site's identity and knowledge about Sims 2 modding. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the publisher of The Sims. "The Sims 2" is referenced only to describe the game these community mods were made for.
Can I still download the mods here?
This restoration focuses on preserving the community's knowledge — what the mods did and how modding works — rather than redistributing individual files. For files that have gone offline, preservation resources like the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine are often the best place to look.
How do I install a mod or custom content?
Place the package file in your game's Downloads folder and enable custom content in the game options. The full walkthrough, including the all-important "install one thing at a time" rule, is in Getting Started.
Two of my mods seem to fight. What do I do?
When two hacks change the same game behavior, they can conflict. The fix is methodical: remove your most recently added hacks until the problem stops, then reintroduce them one at a time to find the culprit. This is exactly why the community preached adding files singly — see Sims 2 hacks for more.
Will these mods work with my expansion packs?
Many gameplay mods were built or updated for specific expansions. Always check a mod's notes for requirements, and keep a record of which expansions you have installed — it makes troubleshooting far faster.
Is custom content safe?
Custom content — recolors, meshes, objects, clothing — only adds items and is generally very safe. Gameplay hacks carry a bit more responsibility because they change behavior. Keep backups, install in small batches, and you will rarely have trouble.
How can I learn to make my own mods?
Start with a recolor — it is the classic first project. The tutorials cover recoloring and custom food step by step.
What were the community's rules?
Simple and human: be respectful, credit creators, honor each maker's terms for their work, and keep discussion friendly. Those norms are why the community stayed welcoming for so long. Questions the FAQ does not cover? Reach out via the contact page.
